Reference report Autohaus Melzer: high availability & better fail-safety

The challenge

Over the years, the existing outdated IT hardware was no longer able to cope with the increased demands of modern operations. In addition, a critical point was that the backup could no longer be operated in a stable manner and a recovery of the data could not be verified in practice. Redundancy of the data to safeguard business-critical processes was not possible.

Detailed planning before order

Together with SIGMA Chemnitz GmbH, the decision was made to modernize the company's IT landscape. Prior to implementation, the processes and requirements of the dealership were recorded and documented in a detailed planning workshop. This made it possible to develop an IT concept tailored to the customer's individual needs in order to optimally align the company's IT with the requirements of the coming years.

Implementation of the IT project

The first step was to implement an availability and backup concept with a new Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX300 server with internal disks. In doing so, value was placed on later scalability, for example through storage. The new server runs with HyperV, so that the IT landscape can be virtualized without any problems. Data exchange with the second location is now also possible without any problems with the help of a terminal service.

With the help of VEEAM backup software, a modern and secure backup concept is realized. In addition, the data is redundantly backed up at the second location. The IT migration of the domain server was also carried out and a modern Exchange Server was installed. Archiving is done using the mail archiving solution from Reddoxx.

A smartphone integration allows employees mobile data access (to emails, company data and archives) now also location-independent. The entire modernization project was implemented within the existing budget, as well as within the planned time frame of three months.
