As the successor to Windows CE 6.0 and Windows Embedded Compact 7, Windows Embedded Compact 2013 is a version of Windows 8 designed entirely for embedded development.
For our customers, we have carried out system integration, driver development and Board Support Packages ( BSP ) based on the AM335x processors from Texas Instruments and the i.MX6 from NXP under WEC2013 in several customer-specific projects.
Numerous improvements have been implemented with Windows Embedded Compact 2013. According to Microsoft, Windows Embedded Compact 2013 should be able to boot faster than previous versions. The file system also works faster, and the core of WEC2013 has been improved accordingly.
Windows Embedded Compact 2013 can handle both x86 processors and ARM architectures. Windows Embedded Compact 2013 enables the connection of touch screens as well as Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.
In addition to WEC 2013, there are other embedded versions tailored to special industrial requirements, such as Embedded 8 Pro, Industry or Handheld.
